Art and culture influences society by changing opinions, instilling values, connecting people and translating experiences across space and time. From poetry to literature, art is the repository of a society’s collective memory.
Art allows people from different cultures, experiences and different times to communicate with each other through images, sounds and stories. We therefore are harnessing the potentials of Art and Culture as a vehicle for social change.
We are using arts to give a voice to the politically, economically, culturally and socially disenfranchised.
There is a demonstrable, positive correlation between schoolchildren’s grades and their involvement with drama or music activities and other artistic activities. There is also evidence from our past works that children with disabilities develop skills and are more engaged in schools when they have artistic activities.
Offering this program for more than 3 years now, we have come to appreciate the impact of arts and culture in inspiring children who have stayed away from school for years to return to school. It is a point of attraction for these children as they get to understand that education is more fun that just sitting in classrooms and listening to give feedback.
Art not only meets the human need for self-expression and fulfillment; it is also contributes enormously to improving livelihoods of artists and communities as a whole. The creation, management and distribution of art employs many. But this has been a challenge for artists in Cameroon. We are therefore supporting artists to add value to their works by imploring digital trends, innovative and scalable entrepreneurship models to improve livelihoods.
